Invisalign
Giving yourself a straighter smile doesn’t have to mean spending years in braces. With Invisalign, you can align your teeth much more quickly without compromising the aesthetics of your smile in the process.
How Invisalign Works
Made of clear plastic, Invisalign aligners are designed to fit tightly and discreetly over your teeth to straighten them into a desired position practically invisibly. The aligners are considered invisible because at a conversational distance, they are unnoticeable to others. Also unlike braces, Invisalign aligners are removable. They can be taken out for eating and brushing, which allows you to maintain your dental hygiene more easily than can be done with braces in the way.
Aside from meals and cleanings, each aligner is designed to be worn all day and night for a period of two weeks. At the end of each two-week period, it’s time for a new aligner to move the teeth into their next position. This replacement of the aligner occurs every two weeks for the duration of the Invisalign process, which typically lasts 12 to 16 months and concludes when every tooth is in its desired position. Straightening your teeth with Invisalign takes roughly half as long as with braces, which means fewer follow-up visits in addition to quicker results.
Each Invisalign aligner is custom-designed not only to fit your teeth as they are but to get them to where they need to be. To create your aligners, we will first take x-rays, optical scans, and digital impressions of your teeth. This process allows us to determine the end goal as well as the specifics of your program, including how many aligners will be needed over what length of time. And by using the measurements we gather, we’ll be able to ensure an ideal, tight fit for your first and subsequent aligners. Once your first aligner is complete, you’ll be ready to get started. Simply insert the aligner over your teeth and keep it in at all times, other than when eating or brushing. At first, the aligner will feel quite tight, but once your teeth adjust to their new position, that feeling will subside. After two weeks, you’ll replace your aligner and your teeth will shift to adjust to that one as well. Follow all of our instructions for wearing and replacing your aligner, and your ideal smile will be achieved right on time, and much more quickly than is possible with braces.
Is Invisalign Right for Me?
Invisalign is a form of orthodontic treatment that is effective for many patients. But since it requires active participation on the part of the patient to keep the aligners in, it doesn’t suit everyone. And when there is severe crowding of the teeth or the teeth haven’t fully erupted, Invisalign isn’t the appropriate treatment. In these cases, we recommend traditional braces. At your initial exam, we’ll assess your unique situation and recommend the treatment that is right for you.
